Disc Prolapse & Homoeopathy

A prolapsed (slipped) disc occurs when the soft centre of a spinal disc pushes out through its outer ring and presses on a nerve. It is commonest in the lower back and neck.

Common signs

  • Sudden or gradual back or neck pain
  • Pain shooting down the leg or arm
  • Numbness, tingling or weakness of a limb
  • Pain worse on coughing, sneezing or sitting

How homoeopathy approaches it

Rather than suppressing the symptom alone, a homoeopathic physician studies the whole person — the pattern of complaints, what makes them better or worse, general health, temperament and history — and selects a remedy that matches that individual picture. Treatment aims to raise the body’s own resistance so that relief is lasting and relapses become fewer. Homoeopathic treatment aims to relieve pain and nerve irritation and to help the patient avoid surgery where possible; rest and physiotherapy are advised alongside.
