Molluscum Contagiosum

Molluscum contagiosum is a common, harmless viral infection of the skin, seen most often in children. It produces small, smooth, pearly bumps with a central dimple, which spread by direct contact, shared towels or scratching.

Common signs

  • Small, round, flesh-coloured or pink bumps, 2–5 mm, with a dip in the centre
  • Clusters on the face, trunk, arms, thighs or groin
  • Usually painless; may itch and spread when scratched
  • Lesions may persist for months and recur

How homoeopathy approaches it

Rather than suppressing the symptom alone, a homoeopathic physician studies the whole person — the pattern of complaints, what makes them better or worse, general health, temperament and history — and selects a remedy that matches that individual picture. Treatment aims to raise the body’s own resistance so that relief is lasting and relapses become fewer. Homoeopathic treatment aims to help the body clear the virus and resolve the lesions without the pain and scarring of cautery or scraping, and to reduce recurrence in children who keep catching it.
