Acidity (hyperacidity) is excess acid in the stomach, felt as burning in the chest or upper abdomen, sour belching and discomfort after meals. Irregular eating, spicy or fried food, stress, smoking and certain medicines are frequent triggers.
Common signs
- Burning behind the breastbone or in the upper abdomen
- Sour or bitter taste, belching, nausea
- Bloating and heaviness after food
- Discomfort that worsens on lying down or at night
How homoeopathy approaches it
Rather than suppressing the symptom alone, a homoeopathic physician studies the whole person — the pattern of complaints, what makes them better or worse, general health, temperament and history — and selects a remedy that matches that individual picture. Treatment aims to raise the body’s own resistance so that relief is lasting and relapses become fewer. In acidity, attention is also paid to diet pattern, sleep and stress, which so often keep the complaint going.
