Gastro-oesophageal reflux (GERD) is the backward flow of stomach acid into the food pipe, causing heartburn and regurgitation. Obesity, late heavy meals, alcohol, smoking and pregnancy increase the tendency.
Common signs
- Heartburn after meals or on lying down
- Sour fluid rising into the throat
- Chronic cough, hoarseness or sore throat
- Difficulty or pain in swallowing in advanced cases
How homoeopathy approaches it
Rather than suppressing the symptom alone, a homoeopathic physician studies the whole person — the pattern of complaints, what makes them better or worse, general health, temperament and history — and selects a remedy that matches that individual picture. Treatment aims to raise the body’s own resistance so that relief is lasting and relapses become fewer. Meal timing, posture after food and weight are addressed along with the remedy.
