Diseases we treat

Irritable Bowel Syndrome & Homoeopathy

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional disorder of the gut with recurring abdominal pain and altered bowel habit, without any structural disease. It is closely linked to stress and diet.

Common signs

  • Cramping abdominal pain relieved by passing stool
  • Alternating constipation and diarrhoea
  • Bloating, gas and mucus in the stool
  • Symptoms aggravated by anxiety or certain foods

How homoeopathy approaches it

Rather than suppressing the symptom alone, a homoeopathic physician studies the whole person — the pattern of complaints, what makes them better or worse, general health, temperament and history — and selects a remedy that matches that individual picture. Treatment aims to raise the body’s own resistance so that relief is lasting and relapses become fewer. Because the mind–gut link is so strong in IBS, the constitutional approach of homoeopathy suits it particularly well.
