Alopecia & Homoeopathy

Alopecia is loss of hair from the scalp or body. Alopecia areata appears as smooth, round bald patches and is auto-immune in nature; diffuse hair fall may follow illness, stress, hormonal change or nutritional deficiency.

Common signs

  • Sudden round or oval bald patches
  • Excessive hair in the comb, pillow or shower
  • Thinning over the crown or temples
  • Itching, dandruff or scaling of the scalp in some cases

How homoeopathy approaches it

Rather than suppressing the symptom alone, a homoeopathic physician studies the whole person — the pattern of complaints, what makes them better or worse, general health, temperament and history — and selects a remedy that matches that individual picture. Treatment aims to raise the body’s own resistance so that relief is lasting and relapses become fewer. In alopecia the physician also looks for underlying causes such as thyroid imbalance, anaemia or prolonged stress.
